Tonsils and adenoids are composed of tissue that is similar to the lymph nodes or "glands" found in the neck, groin and other places in the body. They are part of a "ring" of glandular tissue encircling the back of the throat. The adenoids are located high in the throat, behind the nose and soft palate (roof of the mouth) and, unlike tonsils, are not visible through the mouth without the help of special instruments. The tonsils are the two masses of tissue on either side of the back of the throat.

Tonsils and adenoids are located near the entrance of the breathing passages where they can encounter with incoming infections. They "sample" bacteria and viruses and become infected. It is said that they help in antibody formation against those "germs" as part of the body's immune system to resist and fight infections.

What are the symptoms?
Chronic symptoms of infections for tonsils or adenoids include:
	Breathing through mouth.  Nasal obstruction and discharge.  Snoring during sleep, especially when accompanied by apnoea or pauses in breathing.  Difficulty in swallowing solid foods.  Daytime sleepiness due to discomfort during night-time sleep.

How to treat?

               Commonly the parents choose surgery for tonsils and adenoids. We do not advice surgery because the lymphoid tissue adenoid and tonsils are like securities against infection. Surgical removal is not advisable. Homoeopathy is well known for the treatment of tonsillitis. If you look deep into the causative factor you can find two basic causative factors, immunity and allergy which predispose tonsillitis. If a child prone to get infections frequently, it shows that immunity is very less. If a child often sneezes due to the air pollution, he is allergic. Then the process causes an infection, which spread over the adenoids, tonsils and so on. Basically immunity is vital so we have to enhance the immunity. How is it possible?
